Soon enough I'll have you guys working on sharpening your opening skills but before we get into that I want you all to try this little exercise I've picked up from one of the worlds formost pick up authorities "Neil Strauss" aka "Style". This is from his book the "The Stylelife Chalenge".
All you need for this exercise is a cell phone. The task is to dial a random local number and when someone answers, try to get them to recommend a good movie. It's that simple. The point isn't just to talk to more strangers. It's to learn how to change the course of an interaction without making the other person feel uncomfortable. This skill will help you take control of conversations in real life and direst them towards the outcome you want.
A few hints.
Dont just dial seven digit number at random, Go through the phone book and pick numbers at random.Or use the first digits of your number then make up the rest.
Here's a sample script you can use while doing this challenge.
Heres another script that might work for you.
"Hello? Is this Moviephone? No? Well would you mind quickly recommending a movie to watch tonight? Have you seen anything good lately?"
If the person your speaking to hesitates or asks if this is a joke, reassure them that you're serious. One magic word you can always use is "because". Providing a reason, no matter how illogical. (such as "No, I'm serious because I'm in a rush."), Psychologically influence people to except an unexpected behavior.
When you'eve gotten at least three movie recommendations you're ready for my addition to this challenge.Once your comfortable getting strangers on the phone to sugest movies to you try it at school. Try to get 3 guys and 3 girls recommend a movie to you. and once you pull that off you'll be ready t start you "opening" training ;)
